1) Hiking and nautical activities – Rivière-des-Mille-Îles park

The magnificent Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park, a protected wildlife zone, is the largest in the metropolitan area. The ideal place to indulge in many outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, rabaska, pedal boat or rowboat. The Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park is a sanctuary for birds (245 species), turtles and fish (66 species).

May 2019 marks the grand opening of the brand new Exploration Center, where you can discover the history of the Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, its ecosystem and an ecology laboratory where several species are presented.

 

2) Hiking, fauna and flora – Centre de la Nature

A plethora of activities, varying from season to season, are offered at the Centre de la Nature in Laval. 5km of trails run all across the park, much to the delight of hikers. Picnic areas are also available. You will be impressed by the multiple gardens to visit, all magnificent in their own way: the alpine garden, relaxation garden, undergrowth garden, annual plants garden, shrub garden, perennial garden and more!

Animal lovers will also have the pleasure of seeing the farm and pasture areas (summer only): chickens, horses, pigs, goats, ducks, rabbits and alpacas.

 

3) Hiking, jogging and cycling – Parc des Prairies

Located right in the heart of the Laval-des-Rapides district, the Parc des Prairies covers about 30 acres and is very popular for walking, jogging and cycling. The lake, stream and waterfalls will help you relax for sure. An enchanting public place, it’s the perfect spot for a soothing break. There’s also an interesting variety of animals such as ducks, turtles, several bird species, all in the heart of Laval! Children’s game modules and adult exercise modules are also available on the site.

 

4) Hiking, fauna and flora – Bois de l’Équerre

Bois de l’Équerre is an urban forest of exceptional richness full of hidden treasures: 141 bird species, 27 mammal species, 10 different species of reptiles and amphibians and don’t forget the 22 tree species, 22 varieties of shrubs, etc. You’ll be amazed by this luscious forest!

An absolute paradise for observing fauna and flora, more than 10 km of trails are available for hiking. On every first Sunday of the month, a naturalist leads a walk in the forest and discusses various themes (est. Time: 45 minutes)

 

5) Hiking and bicycle rides – Gagné park
270 Boul des Prairies, Laval, QC H7N 2T9

Plan a beautiful hike on the shores of Rivière-des-Prairies at Gagné Park, located in the south center of Laval. This park is very popular with nature lovers, and those who already own a boat can also get there easily thanks to the boat ramp and docks that facilitate access to the river.
